  • Chapel: It is an objective of The Cathedral School to provide learning in a Christ-centered environment. Bi-weekly chapel services at Saint John’s Cathedral are on Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m. and are an integral part of the school’s curriculum. Students in Pre-K 3, 4, and 5 will participate in the chapel service, walking across Duval Street to The Cathedral under the supervision and direction of their teachers and other staff members. Parents are invited to join their children in this bi-weekly spiritual service.During alternate weeks, the school provides “Godly Play” for our children. During this session, which begins at 10:00 a.m., the children gather in our Common Room for a special guest. This invited guest will instruct the children in a Bible-based lesson according to the set curriculum for Godly Play and Godly Living. Additionally, we have designed a curriculum entitled “Godly Living” to be used in the classrooms as a supplemental tool to teach character, morals, and values to our young children during their developmental years. The curriculum includes lessons on respect, trustworthiness, responsibility, fairness, honesty, care, and citizenship. Each lesson has been created thematically, with practical applications and consideration to helping children easily recall the moral.
  • Art and Drama: Art is a means by which children express themselves visually. The Cathedral School has a resource instructor who works with toddler students through our kindergarteners throughout the week. The art program at The Cathedral School is designed to be both fun and educational. It builds student confidence and allows individual expression through a variety of art forms. Additionally, an art history curricula is used to introduce famous artists and their works to the students. Students are always encouraged to create their own masterpiece. The students also participate in dramatic play under the teacher’s supervision, expanding their imaginations through creative skits and dramas. • Music and Movement: Music is an exciting hands-on and multi-modal experience for children. The program at The Cathedral School, directed by a physical education resource instructor, will provide ample opportunity for each child to perform in a wide range of musical formats. Childhood yoga, using only basic moves, is incorporated into this program. As with art, music and movement builds self-confidence and provides children a means to express themselves. The students also sing during chapel perform in several programs throughout the year, and showcase their emerging talents throughout the year. • Free Play: Physical exercise is an important part of a child’s day. Depending on weather conditions, there is scheduled twice daily outside play time on the playground equipment or covered porch depending on the age-appropriateness. Organized games focus on teamwork, gross and fine motor skills, and fun activities to enrich the physical well-being of each child. Free play provides time for social interaction and physical release. Following the completion of the regular school day and all academic subjects having been adequately covered, our staff supervises the children in free play during the afternoon.
