Christian Education
It is an objective of The Cathedral School to provide learning in a Christ-centered environment. Bi-weekly (1st and 3rd Wednesdays) chapel services at St. John’s Cathedral are at 9:00 a.m. Students in Pre-K 4 will participate in chapel services, lead by a member of the Cathedral clergy and staff. Parents are invited to join their children in this bi-weekly spiritual service.
During alternate weeks (2nd and 4th Wednesdays), the school provides “Godly Play” for our children. During this session, the children gather for a Bible-based lesson presented by a parish member instructor.
Each week, Pre-K 2 – Pre-K 4 students will attend the Christian and Character Education resource that includes bible stories, Christian songs and lessons on the six pillars of character.
Art
Art is a means by which children express themselves visually. The art program at The Cathedral School is designed to be both fun and educational. It builds student confidence and allows individual expression through a variety of art forms. Students are always encouraged to create their own masterpiece.
Music and Movement
Music is an exciting hands-on and multi-modal experience for children. The program at The Cathedral School will provide ample opportunity for each child to perform in a wide range of musical formats. As with art, music and movement builds self-confidence and provides children a means to express themselves. The students also sing during chapel, perform in several programs throughout the year and showcase their emerging talents throughout the year.
Free Play
Physical exercise is an important part of a child’s day. Depending on weather conditions, there is scheduled twice daily outside play time on the playground equipment or covered porch depending on the age-appropriateness. Organized games focus on teamwork, gross and fine motor skills and fun activities to enrich the physical well-being of each child. Free play provides time for social interaction and physical release.
Language
Spanish is offered during the week to our Pre-K 2 through Pre-K 4 classes, where the students are taught the correct vocabulary related to the week’s lesson, as well as special songs and other related activities correlating with the current classroom themes. American sign language is utilized in all classes during circle time, curriculum lessons and while singing and reading.
Tumbling
For our Pre-K 2, Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 students, we offer weekly tumbling classes with a nationally certified coach to promote large motor and balancing skills.
