Meet Our Head of School

Dear TCS Families:

It is with great pleasure and excitement that I begin my second year as Head of School at TCS! The 2007/2008 school year was another blessing for us with several new families joining our school and a brand new playground being built during our summer months. The children and teachers were so excited to watch the playground being assembled from the ground up and can now enjoy some fun in the sun!

This Welcome Package contains pertinent and timely information for your family regarding our school and this academic year. Please thoroughly review all items and pay special attention to information about your child’s class. Most importantly, all care givers should familiarize themselves with all policies and procedures in the Parent Handbook. In addition, we have an Enrollment Contract, which should be read, signed and dated by all parents for each student. The contract, along with other time sensitive documents, is due by Monday August 25, 2008 for your child to remain in attendance.

I would like to make you aware of the many opportunities you will have to help support the growth of The Cathedral School. We are very excited about our upcoming fundraisers and hope you will take part to the best of your ability, whether by participating in a school-sponsored fundraiser or by a direct contribution. I cannot express the importance of our fundraisers and the financial support they provide to our school. The Board of Trustees and the school decided not to raise tuition this school year so we are relying on your time and efforts in raising money. We also realize how busy families are today, so if you are not able to sell products, a direct contribution is greatly appreciated. Fundraisers assist us in many ways such as additional money for classroom supplies, additional resources and possible field trips for the older Pre K students to partake in and enrich their curriculum. You will find in your welcome packet the Sally Foster Fundraiser which has been done over the last several years at TCS. Please pay attention to the due dates for payments and order forms. Mrs. Hunt will keep you informed with posters around the school and memos which will be sent home. Later in our school year, we will also have the Gourmet Treats Fundraiser which was a big success this past school year. The biggest fundraiser, and most fun for the children, will be our annual Spring Festival in 2009. This is an excellent way to support your school and also spend the day with other TCS families and their children.

The quarterly supply fee has been increased for the 2008/2009 school year. The new rate is $50.00 per student each quarter. The due dates for this fee are September 2 and December 1, 2008 and March 2 and June 1, 2009.

We encourage anyone dropping off or picking up a child to please secure all valuables out of sight in their vehicle before coming in the building.

We expect you to thoroughly read the policies in the Parent Handbook, especially our Well Child Policy, which will be strictly enforced. Please see attached copy of our Child Sent Home Report which will be given to the caregiver at the time a child has been sent home due to illness.

All students who are sent home from school due to fever, vomiting, diarrhea or a rash may not return to school for at least 24 hours unless instructed by a pediatrician the child is not contagious.

All students must have a written permission slip to have medication disbursed. You are responsible for completing the medication name, doses, dates and times to be given to your child. By state law, all students under the age of 2 years must have written permission from their pediatrician for us to administer any medication, including over the counter medications.

All of these policies are for your child’s health as well as our staff’s health. The medication policies are under The Department of Children and Families rules and regulations. Please assist us in adhering to these policies.

All of the teachers have worked extremely hard on their classrooms and are excited about our new school year. They will be sending monthly newsletters home so you are more abreast on our curriculum and school functions. It is important that you check your child’s cubby or file folder at the end of their day. The teachers will place artwork, newsletters, daily report sheets and any information from the office in the cubby or file folder.

I am ready to begin our school year and understand you depend on us to provide a safe, nurturing, loving and enriching program for all of the children. I am here to ensure this quality and provide you with communication about your child. Again, I am so excited and happy to be apart of such a wonderful and vibrant preschool and I know we will have a productive educational learning and growing experience!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at your convenience!

Sincerely,

Kristine A. Rodman
