Mission Statement

The mission of the St. John’s Cathedral School and Early Learning Center (The Cathedral School) is to provide, in a secure urban setting, an exemplary early learning educational program which will nurture children to become lifelong learners who are inquisitive and seek the truth. The School’s foundation is the faith and tradition of the Episcopal Church.

Educational Philosophy

The School’s educational philosophy is based upon the foundation of the historic commitment of the Episcopal Church to excellence in the ministry of education. Recognizing each as a unique child of God, we seek to develop children spiritually, cognitively, morally, socially, emotionally and physically within an exemplary, balanced program, appropriate to age and abilities.

Accreditations and Affiliations

The Cathedral School is currently working toward accreditation in accordance with accreditation requirements.

Objectives

Provide an educational program and learning environment of the highest level of excellence, in the finest Episcopal School tradition, for children who would benefit from this program.

Provide a secure setting for learning where children can be nurtured and taught in a Christ-centered environment, utilizing the wide variety of resources of the downtown area and the Cathedral to enrich the student’s experience.

Provide a strong foundation for children to develop positively in self-confidence, character, sense of responsibility, and for growth “in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.” Luke 2:52

Provide a spiritual environment for children through relationship with St. John’s Cathedral community, both clergy and laity, through such avenues as chapel services, music ministry, volunteer opportunities, and intergenerational activities with Cathedral Towers residents.

Provide a safe, urban School setting, incorporating the child’s family into the life of the School by providing opportunities for involvement.

Offer extended hours and summer programs consistent with the School’s mission and quality of program.

Demonstrate and maintain School excellence through recognized professional accreditation and continuing staff professional development.

Seek diversity within the student body, faculty and staff, welcoming those of all races, cultural backgrounds and religious faiths. Provide funding for financial aid to assist in meeting this goal.
